Transformers what makes a prime

Epistemus was a Transformer deity who lived during the earliest period on Cybertron. Once a multiversal singularity, he has been shown to be a member of two separate ancient pantheons in different universes. Epistemus was one of the five members of the Guiding Hand, the revered founders of the Transformer race and society on Cybertron.

Sadly, he and his brothers were betrayed by one of their own, Mortilus, who sought to lead them in conquest of the universe. The resulting conflict resulted in Epistemus being broken down into the brain module that would serve as the model for future Cybertronians, Epistemus having been created as the personification of knowledge. Contrary to the stories, Epistemus had survived the God War intact.

When the Knights of Cybertron made their pilgrimage into space, Epistemus joined in the exploration. Particularly following the Shroud, different realities have included different members of the Thirteen. Most of them remained the same, but these three were added in certain universes:. As such, the transformation cog is associated with him. Despite being remembered as an immortal deity in the legends, Adaptus was a decidedly mortal robot, not so different from those that would come after him.

He is supposedly one of the first four Transformers to come into existence after the creation of their progenitor, Primus; he was created at the same time as Mortilus, Solomus, and Epistemus.

Worried that their immortal, utopian society would only bring about stagnation and prevent the mechanical race from accessing the Higher Realms, the way organic beings could, Adaptus sought to bring war to Cybertron and encouraged the Guiding Hand and their followers to strike out at other civilizations across the galaxy.

The other members of the Guiding Hand refused to so, and so Adaptus turned on his own kind instead, bringing conflict to Cybertron for the first time. In the subsequent conflict, Adaptus was defeated and fled, planning a counterattack. His plan was ultimately annulled by the Transformers.

Mortilus was one of the first five Transformers born on Cybertron, representing death in later mythologized accounts of the Guiding Hand. When Adaptus rebelled against his brothers, he unleashed his memory-erasing weapon on the others, erasing their memories of themselves.

As a result, Mortilus adopted the new persona of Censere and dedicated himself to the recording of every Cybertronian death. They say that he can determine the cause of death just by letting his shadow fall on the corpse and that he has devoted his life to recording the fate of every last Transformer.

Whether there is any truth to these stories is unknown to most, but they persist. Sentinel Prime is an imposing Transformer and one of the alternative universe Primes; he is much, much larger than an average Autobot. Bristling with some of the most heavy-duty weapons and armor available to the Autobot army has instilled in Sentinel Prime a supreme confidence in his own abilities as both a leader and a fighter.

Unfortunately such pride usually precedes a fall, and there will always be someone out there keen to prove a point, or who merely sees Sentinel Prime as an obstacle on the path to a bigger destiny. He was once defeated in battle by Prima, who attacked their Quintesson masters when their match was over, only to be destroyed himself.

Subsequently, the robots rose up against the Quintessons in a rebellion that ultimately forced the aliens off the planet. Two Autobot leaders fell during the war that ensued, and Sentinel Major inherited the Matrix of Leadership and became Sentinel Prime, leader of the Autobots.

Under his leadership, the Autobots realized that they would never be able to defeat the Decepticons with firepower, and they turned instead to stealth, reconfiguring their bodies to be able to transform into other forms. The ensuing period of peace was known as the Golden Age of Cybertron, but was not long lasting.

By , Optimus Prime was the only Prime known to still be alive no one knew that Sentinel was still alive in the ruins of the Ark on Earth's Moon and the only one who could defeat the Fallen as "only a Prime can defeat the Fallen. Eventually, the remains of the Ark were discovered on the Moon, along with the body of Sentinel Prime; he was also revived by the Matrix of Leadership like Optimus once was. But Sentinel was revealed to be a traitor, and killed in a battle by Optimus Prime with help from Megatron.

Quintessa claimed to be "the Prime of life" when introducing herself to Optimus but given that she was later called "the Great Deceiver", the validity of this claim is in question. The title of Prime referred to commanding officers in Autobot society.

Transform and Roll Out Across all of Autobot society, all Primes were considered equal, one being able to disregard the order of another who was of higher societal status. The Elite Guard. Transform and Roll Out Longarm was likewise promoted to Prime, presumably when he became the head of Cybertron Intelligence.

Autoboot Camp. It is revealed that the first Thirteen original Transformers created by Primus to crew his planetary form were all designated Primes. In addition to this designation, each was given a specific task or role in sustaining the multiverse. Vector Prime was granted guardianship of space-time. The Prime who would become The Fallen was charged to oversee the force of entropy.

Another of these Primes was made the guardian of Rarified Energon. Logos Prime and Prima's specific functions are still unknown. These Primes are multiversal singularities with only one version of each existing across all realities before Nexus Prime enacted the Shroud and ended multiversal singularities. Out of the One, Many. The title of Prime is not an honorary rank but the title of the diabolical leader of the Autobots. Optimus Prime stands as the current Prime. For now. Rodimus , Ultra Magnus or Thunderclash may very well usurp the title and position in the future.

It was technically Primus 's right to appoint the Prime and bestow them the Matrix, but gradually his children became ignorant of his presence. It almost seems Sentinel Prime was the only Prime between the Age of the Primes and Optimus , as he fought off the Quintessons , established the Golden Age and tried to combat its decline by establishing the caste system , to Alpha Trion 's displeasure. Sentinel was unworthy of the Matrix, and the Core said it was only after his death that Optimus could receive it for being a Prime was not a status Trion or the High Council could grant.

The civil war began and continues as Megatron and Starscream both sought to be a Prime and bear the Matrix. The Autobot High Council existed to choose the Primes, having seen many fall to their greed and pride.

Transformers: War for Cybertron. Megatron traveled to Cybertron with Dreadwing to visit a tomb known to hold the remains of a Prime. He severed the arm of the Prime and attached it to his own body to gain control of the Forge of Solus Prime. With the Forge, he crafted the Dark Star Saber. As he prepared to sacrifice himself to restore the AllSpark to the core of Cybertron, Optimus Prime told his team members that, although they may not technically be Primes, he believed that they had each demonstrated the worth of a Prime in the recent conflict against Unicron.

Predacons Rising. The Thirteen Primes had a personal mystic plane of existence known as the Realm of the Primes. After becoming one with the AllSpark, Optimus Prime trained here in preparation for a coming threat to both Earth and Cybertron.

Out of Focus. When the threat, the return of Megatronus , came, Micronus took Optimus to consult the other Primes on their next course of action. Though the other Primes thought that Optimus's training was not complete, Optimus convinced them to give him their power and send him to Earth to deal with Megatronus immediately. Predaking also has some other abilities that make him extraordinarily strong, but the one that stands out makes him a bit unique among other combiners.

One of the drawbacks when a Transformer shifts into their Combiner form is all of them have to work together. The different Transformers are still independent beings and, if they disagree about which action to take, there isn't much they can do. The five Transformers who become Predaking actually mold together into one consciousness, preventing that drawback.

It makes for an extremely dangerous foe, capable of isolating and destroying his enemies. Predaking's main weakness is his lust for the hunt — he has been lured into more than a few traps when he thinks he's already won. He isn't particularly strong on offense, but he does flex his power levels in other ways. For one, Defensor is one of the most intelligent and strategic minds on any battlefield. The Protectobots are all emergency responders, so they need to be able to analyze situations quickly and effectively in order to save lives.

He's no slouch on the battlefield, certainly, but Defensor has one other trick up his robotic sleeve — a massive, incredibly strong force field that can be projected up to 50 feet away from his body.

Defensor's force field takes a massive amount of energy to maintain, but it's an extremely powerful ability. The Autobots usually get in trouble when they're stretched too thin trying to protect everyone; Defensor earns a spot on the list because he bypasses that weakness entirely whenever he's on the battlefield.

This Transformer is basically the other side of the coin in relation to Defensor. Each of these Decepticons transform into military vehicles and, when they all join together, become the extremely powerful Bruticus. Bruticus possesses all sorts of advanced weaponry and is nearly impervious to attacks.

Despite being a Combiner, each of the five Transformers that make up this monstrosity are all driven by similar instincts. Thus, it isn't very hard for them to find common purpose and work together in their Bruticus form. Bruticus' central weakness is his intelligence — being driven solely by aggression makes him extremely suggestible and very, very dumb.

He's easy to trick as Starscream proved when Bruticus was first introduced and will basically follow any orders that allow him to get into battle. His brute strength is unquestionable, making him a terrible threat — he just needs someone else to pull the strings for him. If Trypticon cared a bit more, he'd be practically unstoppable. He's what's known as a Titan — in one form, he's a massive dinosaur, capable of defeating nearly any Transformer in hand to hand or laser beam combat.

Even worse, his alternate form is a city-sized artillery platform, capable of launching massive amounts of firepower in an incredibly short amount of time. Very few can stand up to Trypticon's insane size and weaponry, and entire teams of Autobots will generally use trickery and subversion in order to stand up to him — they know well that a head-on assault would be suicide.

Despite being the ultimate weapon, Trypticon's heart is not often in the battle. Trypticon hates the Autobots, but he also hates that he's used as a tool by the Decepticons. He has accepted his role as a deadly weapon, but he frequently becomes jaded or dispirited with the constant fighting he's involved in.

This disinterest is one of the few things that gives the Autobots a chance against such a dangerous foe. Metroplex is an Autobot Titan, like his Decepticon counterpart Trypticon. His alternate form is a massive city, and his Autobot form is a towering, intimidating figure that dwarfs almost any other Transformer in existence.
