Can i dread relaxed hair

I got a new set of dreads. I used backcombing, they're about 7 months now. I've been considering getting someone to do some crochet…. Anonymous comments are disabled in this journal. I go to beauty school and our salon, like most, has no knowledge of dreads whatsoever.

Therefore, since I've had them in my time there all of the dread related services and questions get dumped on me. I have a client who wants to start some dreads, she is black and has very coarse, curly hair naturally that has been relaxed and is about shoulder length. Her last relaxer was 3 weeks ago. Would it be better to go about this by backcombing like you would on straight caucasian hair, or should she have twisties done with products instead?

Palm twisting or interlocking to tighten? Any pointers would be helpful ;. Thanks TreeLove! I like the results of the palm twisting better as well but it seems like interlocking would last longer as far as touch ups. I can't wait to cut the perm off! I'm excited about my dread journey. As you get your legnth, you can cut the relaxed hair off in phases and then have the locs combined to make the thickness you desire. Thank you miasha! I considered sisterlocks but decided that getting them that small would be hell to touch up.

I have started turning my twist into braids so that I can wash them. The ends aren't as tight as they were but I'm hoping that it will naturally bond together.
